What is the Learning Center?
The Learning Center (LC) is a support service staffed by professional educators, which provides academic skills reinforcement to the North Country region. The LC serves students and area residents as well as clients from other service agencies. We are committed to serving, to the best of our capacity, all students, clients, and North Country residents who need academic assistance.
*Note: All full- and part-time students challenged by disabilities are encouraged to contact the Disabilities Coordinator to receive appropriate guidance and assistance to be eligible for services. Students are required to provide appropriate documentation of their disabilities to the Disabilities Coordinator to assist in determining appropriate accommodations and arranging supports to maximize success. The Disabilities Coordinator can be contacted on the Berlin Campus at (603) 752-1113 ext 1103 or in NH 1-800-445-4525 ext. 1104.
Services are FREE to all White Mountains Community College students. Where is the LC?
The LC is located in Room 104 on the White Mountains Community College campus in Berlin, and in Littleton.
Who uses the LC?
White Mountains Community College students have full access to LC services. The LC also works closely with area high schools, providing supplemental instruction and alternative credit through PLATO 2000. Clients from community agencies can access the lab for assistance in resume development. The LC can also design individualized, self-paced programs for those needing workplace literacy skills. Businesses interested in upgrading employees' literacy skills can contact the LC; the LC staff will assist in developing appropriate programs.
What is PLATO 2000?
PLATO 2000 is self-paced, individualized computer-assisted instruction. It serves as a lab for NHCC classes, a credit alternative for local high school students, and a way to reinforce skills in preparation for a specific course or further education. PLATO curricula range from basic math and English to social studies and life-coping skills. In addition, the LC PLATO lab can be used as a preparation site for the test alignments for the National League of Nursing (NLN), the Graduate Equivalency Degree (GED) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). With the Learning Center's flexible hours and programming, this is an ideal way to prepare for these important exams.
