Teachers at the New Hampshire Community College Child Care Center were treated to a hands-on workshop introducing them to ways to integrate the arts into all kinds of learning settings and ways to use music and art to build critical skills for young children. The workshop is based on Start with the Arts, published by VSA arts. The workshop was presented as part of the "Arts & Literacy for Families" program by the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire, in partnership with the VSA arts of New Hampshire, with funding support from VSA arts. Above, presenter Deborah Stuart, Executive Editor of Start with the Arts, has the rapt attention of both teachers and youngsters at the child care center. Stuart is a folk musician who has worked with children for forty years. She has served on commissions and education committees in Washington and New Hampshire, and as President of the national VSA arts organization, for whom she is still active as a speaker, trainer, writer and editor. Stuart has performed in the USA, British Isles, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland and Russia. If you are interested in having artists visit your center, or would like to be on an email list for updates on arts and early childhood programs, please call the Arts Alliance at 323-7302 or email info@aannh.org
