"Rural Realities" Education Conference Planned for Berlin

From July 10 through July 13, New Hampshire Community College-Berlin will host a four-day event for teachers and other education professionals. Participants will collect and test water samples while rafting, travel to the top of Mount Washington for presentations on teaching resources, and attend two days of workshops and presentations at the Berlin Community Technical College campus.

Deborah Stewart, Professor of the Teacher Preparation Program, is the organizer of the event. "We are looking forward to hosting teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and those considering employment in education from across New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. The realities with which rural educators must contend can pose challenges that provide wonderful outcomes for students, and the lessons are just as applicable for our more urban colleagues," said Stewart. "Every school and district has unique resources that can enrich teaching and enhance learning," Stewart continued. "This conference will give everyone a chance to explore new ideas in leveraging local resources for students."

The four-day event consists of two conference days, with special pre-conference and post-conference attractions to complete the time. Speakers will include New Hampshire State Education Commissioner Dr. Lyonel Tracy and CCSNH-Berlin President Kathy Eneguess. Presenters include college faculty and local K-12 teachers from a variety of disciplines.

"We're especially excited to be able to introduce or reacquaint educators and future educators to the rich resources available here in the North Country," said Martha Laflamme, Vice President of Student and Corporate Affairs. "Participants can develop new ideas and strategies while earning staff development credit hours."
