CCSNH-Berlin Student Receives Internship in GIS

Whitley Frost, a New Hampshire Community College-Berlin senior who will graduate this spring with an associate degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), has been awarded a summer internship by the Geospatial Information and Technology Association (GITA). During her paid internship, Whitley will work with a company that specializes in providing GIS services. In addition to the paid internship, Whitley will receive a stipend from GITA. GIS is an evolving technology that allows people to take any sort of spatial information and plot it in map format using a computer. For her senior project, Whitley has been creating a natural resource inventory for the Town of Jackson using GIS.

Whitley

Whitley first became interested in GIS when working for the Forest Service and saw what was being done there with the technology. Ironically, the person who introduced her to the GIS work at the Forest Service, Peg Heaney, is now the GIS instructor at the college. After her internship Whitley expects to find a position in the GIS field, as there is a growing demand for people who are trained in this area.
