CCSNH-Berlin Childcare Program Receives a $4,000 Grant

The Childcare Program at the New Hampshire Community College - Berlin recently received a training and equipment grant of $4,000 from the state of New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services' Child Development Bureau. Jessica Roy and April Savage, teachers in the Infant/Toddler program, spent a recent Saturday in Concord attending workshops and receiving materials that will supplement the equipment and materials that the program already has in place. They learned how and why the new materials should be best utilized in the classroom. The new materials will be used to promote the early acquisition of language, literacy, math, science, and music for infants and toddlers in the program. Professor of Early Childhood Education, Pat Finnigan-Allen stated that over the last two years this grant and others have enhanced the environment in the College's Child Development Laboratory.

Finnigan-Allen went on to state that the CCSNH-Berlin program is the only program in the area that is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. She further stated that area child care programs that are interested in learning more about these state-sponsored grants should contact Dr. Margaret Leitch-Copeland at the state Child Development Bureau. For more information about the CCSNH-Berlin Childcare Program contact Susan Blais at 752-1113 ext. 1460.
