2004 Awards Night a Success at NHCTC

On Wednesday, April 24, the NH Community Technical College held its Annual Scholarship and Awards Night. Over 100 people were in attendance to watch students being awarded for their outstanding academic achievements. Kathy Eneguess, President of NHCTC, gave a warm welcome and Jackie Catello, Director of Financial Aid, was the keynote speaker. Jackie stated, "In my financial aid world, I many times have to tell students and parents that their only eligibility for funding is in the form of student or parent loans. On awards night, however, I get to let go of those frustrations and tell folks that this is GIFT AID - free money! It's one of the most rewarding nights in my work life."

For the Work Incentive Program, the Androscoggin Valley Hospital Award went to Nursing Students, Amanda Haulenbeck of Center Conway, Arlene Riendeau of Colebrook, Kersten Cordwell of Berlin, Misty Gagne of Milan, Susanne Rano of Berlin, Angela Corrigan of Milan, April Lamontagne of Berlin, Karen Flint of Milan, Claudette Keezer of Stewartstown, and Shari Savage of Colebrook. For the Leveraged Incentive Grants, the Nursing Faculty-Terrie Judge Award went to Shari Savage. The Edgar C. Smith Memorial Award, presented by Vera Smith, was given to Nursing students Sharon Yunghans of Lancaster, Leigh Valeriani of Center Conway, Rebecca Shatney of Littleton, Alison Moore of Gorham, Kelly Sargent of Gorham, and Kimiko Aldrich of Lisbon. The Vera Smith Academic Achievement Award, presented by Vera Smith went to Tracy McNamara of Littleton. The Kiwanis Club Award was given to Joli Smith (Tech Prep)of Berlin, Colleen Valliere (Human Services) of Berlin, April Lamontagne (Nursing), Susanne Rano (Nursing), Roxanne Boucher (Business Admin.) of Gorham, Eric Fortin (Culinary) of Gorham, and Kersten Cordwell (Nursing). The Paula Drouin Memorial Award was given to Kyle Dube (Accounting Management) of Berlin. The Rotary Club Award was handed out to Donna Bizier (Office Tech) of Milan, Judy Marcou (Business Administration) of Dummer, and Dawn Keddy (Computer Tech) of Berlin. The Leveraged Incentive General Scholarship was given to Gregory Barr (Tech Prep), Carol Rainville (Tech Prep), and Karen Bunnell (Waste Water Tech), all from Colebrook. Gregory and Karen were also the recipients of a Nontraditional Scholarship. The Athletic Award, presented by Martha Laflamme and Danny Arguin, Coaches Award in Hockey, was given to Andrea Belisle (Liberal Arts) of Berlin.

In total $19,000, was awarded to students of NHCTC Wednesday night. The funding initially comes from the Postsecondary Education Commission for both a Leveraged Incentive Grant and Workforce Incentive Grant Program. The Leveraged Incentive Grant is open to all programs of study, whereas the Workforce Incentive Grant is targeted to designated workforce shortage areas. Other organizations who generously have given to the College include the Androscoggin Valley Hospital, Mrs. Vera Smith in memory of her husband Edgar C. Smith, Paul and Sally Drouin and family in memory of their daughter Paula, the Kiwanis Club, the Rotary Club, the NHCTC Nursing Faculty in memory of Terrie Judge, the Woodlands Credit Union, and the NHCTC Student Senate.
